Terms of Service

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Epistery is operated by Rootz Corp. These terms cover epistery.com and the services it hosts: the console and its apps, the relay network, and the Epistery Scan discovery index (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to them. Open-source code published by the Epistery project is licensed under its own license; these terms cover the hosted Service, not the code.

Your identity and keys

There is no account. Your identity is a key (a rivet) generated on your own device, and you are responsible for it. Rootz Corp never holds a copy, so it cannot recover a lost key, restore a removed device, or reverse an action a key has signed. Keep more than one device in an identity if access matters to you.

Public blockchain records

Some actions — joining an identity, creating a session, granting a role, registering a name — are written to the Polygon public blockchain. Those records are public and permanent, and neither Rootz Corp nor anyone else can delete them. Network fees for those transactions may apply. See Privacy for what is recorded.

Your content

Content you place in a session belongs to you or to whoever has the rights to it. It is encrypted on your device, and Rootz Corp cannot read it. You are responsible for what you share and with whom, and you must have the right to share it.

The discovery index

Anyone may submit a public website to Epistery Scan for indexing. Scan reads the site's public /.well-known/ai declaration and related public files, verifies their signatures, and lists the site and its declared information in the index. Submit only sites you operate or are authorized to submit. Rootz Corp may decline to index a site or remove it from the index.

Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to break the law, infringe others' rights, distribute malware, harass people, send spam, or interfere with, overload, or try to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other people's sessions.

Apps and plugins

Some apps available through the console are provided by third parties, such as Adnet by GeistM. Their own terms apply to the services they provide.

Availability and changes

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". Rootz Corp may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it. Material changes to these terms will be dated at the top. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance of it.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rootz Corp disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Rootz Corp is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or digital assets, including assets lost through a lost key or a transaction signed by your key. Rootz Corp's total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to US $100.
